Φούρνος is the Greek word for Bakery. This room is named after the historic Loizou Bakery, which operated here from 1913 until the mid-1970s. The bakery was a local landmark, with direct access via stairs from the harbor and from "Marasi", the upper part of Pothia town. It served generations of islanders and travelers, filling the neighborhood with the aroma of fresh bread and tradition. The bakery was known for producing large quantities of "γαλεττες"  hard bread, purchased by sponge-diving boats, for their crews on their expeditions far away. Staying in this room is like stepping into a delicious slice of Kalymnos’ living history.
